‘Tis the night before Mardi Gras
And all through the town,
People are camped out
On the sidewalk and neutral ground.

The ladders are decked out
In purple, green and gold.
It’s exciting for everyone,
Both young and old.

The sandwiches are made,
The ice chest is ready.
The loot bags look awesome,
Boy, will they get heavy!

We’ll catch Zulu and Rex
And Elks of Orleans.
Or Argus and Jefferson,
If we do Metairie.

The joy on kids’ faces
What a sight it will be.
When truck floats roll by,
And pelt us with beads!

Now let doubloons, costumes
And marching bands fill your dreams.
For “Throw me something, Mister!”
Tomorrow we will scream.
