The emphasis of the book is on the change of attitude, rather than the fancy looks, causing a change in the way people treat the pair. If you feel good about yourself, others feel good about you too.
This is a wonderful old children's book from 1953 about a horse-drawn carriage in a city park. The horse is getting old and tired and no one wants to ride with them anymore, which is getting to be a problem as they are runniong out of money for food. Then The wind blows a woman's hat into the street and the horse eats the flowers on it. The women no longer wants it, and the driver puts it on the horse, who begins to feel pretty and lively and good about herself again. Now, because the horse looks enthusiastic and full of life, everyone want to ride with them agin and horse and rider are thrilled. A charming, classic tale.
