When Granny was a flapper

Way back in ‘25,

The “Jazz Age” was a great time

For her to be alive.

When Granny was a flapper,

She sipped on “bathtub gin,”

And bobbed her hair, and did the things

Her parents labeled “sin.”

When one of Granny’s boyfriends

Would take her on a date,

She’d claim the car ran out of gas

When she came home too late.

When Granny started dancing,

The others soon would stop

To watch her do the Charleston—

Upon the tabletop!

When Granny was a flapper,

She would so often speak

Of a man named Valentino

And a movie called The Sheik.

Those days of silent movies

And dance marathons galore

(When Granny was a flapper)

Are gone forevermore.

Now, as I listen to Boy George

And comb my “punk rock” hair,

Granny does the Charleston

Beside her rocking chair!

When Granny was a flapper

Way back in ‘25,

The “Jazz Age” was a great time,

But I’m glad she’s still alive.
