Seven facts about Tax Day

[1.] In 1861, Income tax was first introduced in the United States of America.

[2.] In 1913, the federal form 1040 was introduced.  US citizens and residents with a net income of $3,000 or over had to file income tax returns for the taxable year.

[3.] In 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed The Social Security Act into law.

[4.] In 1936, Social Security cards with numbers were made.

[5.] In 1961 taxpayers were required to use their Social Security number for identification on their tax form.

[6.] Tax Day is not a federal public holiday in the United States.
Post offices, Court House, Schools, Banks, and other businesses and organizations are open as usual.  Public transport services run their usual schedules.

[7.] In 1913 Tax Day, or the filing deadline, was on March 1st.
In 1918 Tax Day was moved to March 15th.
In 1955 Tax Day was moved to April 15th.
It has remained on April 15th since then.
